WALKING TO TOWN
Exit by the bottom garden gate using the house key to unlock the gate and walk down the steps to the road via a gate. Turn right and in 50m turn left down steps under the railway line. Cross the rather busy road, and head towards the sea. Alternatively, to your left is the prettier part, clustered around the old town. Alternatively you can turn left and walk over the railway line and this way you drop down into the pedestrianised end sooner.

FOOD SHOPPING
The closest greengrocer is in the Rue Pieta, Europa Fruits. We like this place and the Italian shop next door sells great food. The butcher we use is in the side street
(towards the sea) just before you get to Europa Fruits. It’s fun to shop at the Halles Municipales (the markets) by Place Fornari. You can park down there if you want to but it is a very easy walk. There is a wine shop on the east side of Place Fornari, which is nice and sells excellent cheap rose as well as other things. The local supermarket we use is Carrefour City, open from 07.00 to 22.00 Mon – Sat and 07.00 to 13.00 on Sundays; their bakery is one of the best in Menton. Carrefour City is in Rue St. Michel (the unpedestrianised part).
On a Sunday the covered market and the market near the bus station are open till midday. If necessary you can go to Conad in Latte just across the border.

Mirazur

Modern French cooking with a twist; the location is fantastic and fabulous views. This does not come cheap but should be worth it. The Chateau Valentine is the house wine and it is fine and reasonable.
Napoleon Plage
0492129260
A recently revamped menu, stylish, and on the private beach of the Hotel Napoleon. This area is full of beach restaurants which are family friendly and/or smart so you can take your pick; Napoleon Plage along with its Glacier remain our favourites.

Another great place in Bordighera but in the old town. Must book a table if you are eating outside. You would have to take a taxi from the station, but driving is easy. A favourite.
There is a restaurant guide for Menton plus a few cards of a few more of the best value ones in the tourist information basket in the house.
